Rolls Eyes "typical Flaky artistic type" strikes agian!

hello all ---------------------------------- yea its been over a year since my last post here artistic doldrums and depression strikes agian!!
but neh mind lets move on im in the mood agian!

What sort of mood?

a Flintloque mood!

so those who know me will know that i have moved from one end of the country to the other (kent to rural northen scotland/joccia) so most of my stuff is still in storage back in dover :(

but Hey Ho! neh mind i am resourceful (and i have internet connection)
so with the help of Ebay and the bring and buy table at skelp wargames show i present you my latest unit a 90% finished orcish light infantry Regiment "the 19th Border Rangers" a Joccia/Albion border regiment (hence the token Joccian Large rat)

and yes i could have stripped the white undercoat of them but i was feeling a little lazy
the models are a mix of 54008 62nd foot lt inf, 54010 62nd foot fusileers, 54014 45th foot  line
and the command group is a light inf officer from 54001 105th command, sargeant with (modded polearm) from the 54000 62nd foot command and the cornet blower is my favourite greatcoat wearer the spade bearer from the 54029 albion engineers pack

they are converted slightly below my standard uniform mix (1/3rd greatcoats 1/3rd forage caps/bareheaded 1/3rd full uniform)

Bring out yer dead!

Converted orc casualties this is the start of my "bring out your dead" project!

thus 4 normal casulties models/markers (1 for each officer test) for each of my regiments so as each unit takes damage and a officer test is needed i will put a casualty down thus leaving a path of bodies as the armies proceed across the battlefield
note these are in addition to the counters that follow the units

and for the the special "ELTONS Crazy as fuck" touch i will make 3 single bodies and for the 4th "unit destroyed marker there will be a special bigger one with the units banner prominant and whats more they will be converted and painted so each unit has its own 4 models!!

Grand duchy of barksburg interrupted 2

ok second of the units that has been distracting me

The Kanterburky Loyal volenteers

in england at the time of the Napoleonic wars there were 3 levels of militia each with slightly different "contracts" (based on ancient common laws etc)  the simplest was the various "militias" they were effectively conscripts chosen by electoral rolls but you could opt out in various ways (mostly paying a man to take your place) and most importantly you if asked to cross county boundaries even in war times you had the right to say no (and you couldn't be deployed abroad) and often dependant on county you got a tax break and were allowed to return to help with the harvest

next grade were fencibles and yeomanry (fencibles for foot and yeomanry for cavalry) these were militias who were often volunteers raised (and paid for) at the government's request
often by local notables most importantly these units could serve anywhere in the country but not abroad

the last kind are bands of "loyal volunteers" mostly infantry, (most often lights) these are true privately raised militia often in units of well below full battalion strength.
in fact there is a very good book covering the uniforms of many of the London "loyal volunteer" regiments ----- one of the distinctive features of these regiments is their love affair with the rakish Tarleton helmet

often all three types of militia were proven recruiting grounds for the various county regiments as the poor and young and bored "got a bit of soldiering" and imagined "this was for them" and joined up into the proper regiments

in the world of Valon its slightly different and militia regiments of all kinds get sent abroad all the time

so here are the first 6 of my second orcish militia regiment the kanterburky loyal volunteers based on the 54010 fusiliers i will pack out the uit with more of the 54010 and packs from the 54008 62nd lights

Flintlqoue finkelstien unit building challenge

ok then i have noticed a new surge in fink units being made so i have decided to join in too

heres my one

The Grand Duchy of Barkburg Lieb Battalion

this is in fact a half finished unit (previously unamed also) i had knocking around on my work table
i have made 10 of the models already which i will show here and then show progress on the remaining 14 and the painting of such models

Uniform?
traditionaly the way smaller coutries styled thier unfiorms was based on which of the big five neighbours either inspired (or scared) them the most, these were of course england, france austria, prussia or russia in the world of valon russia (the star wriath/diberia) is feared but theres no piont emulateing thier uniform style because the leadership of that country is not going to be swayed by politics or rhetoric they just want to kill you. (luckily the snow and cold is wrapped up in the magic they use or they would have overrun the whole world by now!!)
so that only leaves The Ferach, Ostaria, Albion and Krautia

so im useing the Ostarian Dog grenadiers as the basis for this unit im keeping the "ostarian" inspired uniforms but im replaceing the fur busbies with large ornamental tricorns with a distinct single feather hackle

i havnt decided much about barksburg yet except its main export is tourism so its uniforms are more ornamental (the tricorns) which doesnt mean they are poor troops, they are at the very least well drilled fro the displays they used to put on for crowds before the war but im still doing a unit of 24 models so i can deploy them with Landwehr profiles if i wish

ok heres the pics of the 1st 10 already done

hello all this is slightly variated copy of something i posted on the flintloque forums

how i create a finklestien state

the confederation of the rhine/finklestien confederation is whatever you want it to be so you can make up whatever you want (and use whatever you want as troops in either flintloque or slaughterloo

first off dont assume any fink units can only be used vs the star wriath (russians) or kruatians in real history napoleon used the confederation troops everywhere he needed them for example at badajoz in spain there was a full regiment of saxony troops in thier distinctive yellow uniforms defending the city citadel

Note the following ferach "legions" are "cross state" ie the legion de nian and the hunvarian legion and are made up of troops from a mix of differant states and eqiupped from ferach central command so are eqipped the way the book says

here is a very good wiki on the various confederation states

so how to make up a "fink" regiment?
this is how i do it
create a little back history in your head by answering the following questions

(1) is it a single race state? you have the chioce of dwarves, dogs or ogres
please note there are a several fink states that are two small to make up a whole regiment themselves would either produce a smaller type of detachment (artillery, cavalry or lights) or would create a combined regiments in order to fill the troop qoutas given them by mordred
if you are this can create some interesting mixed units if you like to do conversions like i do

(2) once you have decided on race this will give you the chioce of what models you use as a base
bear in mind you are making a unit so you have full choice of all the possible models including models normally on the the allied side  for example the prinz nuefell jagers even though the unit is jagers the tall plumes is a very "fink" look so make good infatary when mixed with the dwarf line unit 52508 krautian kartoffelburg,
(3) what is the state famous for? good examples are beer, mining, various food stuffs for example salted fish (coastal states obviusly) or sausage or other such quasi germanic sterotypes this will help you biuld a backstory and help you with unit and place names

(4) choose a colour scheme, i choose a good set of primary colours for example black and white or red and white or forest green and black then you choose a accent colour used for pipeing or cuff edges (as you decide remember its up to you) i once had a unit of fink dwarf uniforms in the purple and black of the state troops from chitty bang bang

(5) hackles or plumes i mark this seperately becuase they were used for 2 reasons in the napoleonic wars to show "type" of troop to a general when useing his telescope and show which unit was which there is only one rule type that most of the units in the napoleonic army followed some sort of variant of green was used by light troops (often mixed with yellow) but it can be any combination and some sort of red was used for grenadier/gaurd types

---------------------------
final note it is often worth composeing some units with 24 models so you can use them as "militia qaulity" becuase the fink confederation is such a mix of training qualities units with uniforms which look like they must be "gaurd" quality when it comes to the pinch (ie battle) are bloody useless (ie militia grade)  so you can use them as landwher ------- but remember it is only fair to tell your opponent what unit is whatever grade before the battle starts

Voltiguers etc

ok heres my voltiguers (undercoated only) also for the uniform obsessive i have done them in late pattern post bardin french uniform

first we have models from pack 51020 which are simple head swap, very easy with a remodeled collar and cravat/neckerchief to cover the join and i snipped away the original head detailing (hair etc) and modeled a post berdin forage cap

ok know these are 3 models from pack 51024 with straight head swaps

ok know whe have 6 of the origional voltiguers with minor modifications notably the horn blower

and finally the officer and i must admit to being unsure of where hes from one of the dark elf packs i think
hes unmodified other than the tailcoats of his jacket
